Our department offers an undergraduate program in English Language Teaching. Vocational courses, including courses such as English language development, linguistics and foreign language teaching methods, constitute the outline of this program. Through elective courses, students are given the opportunity to improve themselves in cultural and professional subjects of their interest. In conclusion, the aim of the program is to help students gain sufficient command of English and to provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to teach English as a foreign language.

Brief Introduction of the Department

Our department, which was a continuation of Kadıköy School of Foreign Languages before the Council of Higher Education (CoHE), was incorporated into Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education after the establishment of CoHE. As the "Department of English Language and Education" affiliated with the "Department of Foreign Languages Education", it started to receive its first students who came with the Student Selection and Placement Exam (ÖSYS) in 1982. Although it has continued its educational activities as the "Department of English Language Education" in the status of an independent department since 1995, it returned to the status of the Department of English Language Teaching under the Department of Foreign Languages Education in 1998.

At the beginning of the academic year, an English proficiency and grading exam is held upon completion of the registration process. According to the results of the exam, students whose basic English skills are deemed sufficient to follow the courses are admitted directly to the first year. Students who do not get enough points in this exam, study a one-year preparatory program at the School of Foreign Languages.

Job areas:

Our graduates can teach at all levels of educational institutions.

Our graduates can work in official institutions, embassies, the private sector, in fields such as foreign relations, international trade and tourism.
